General Background
On June 11, 2001, the Office of Latino Student Affairs was established to serve the growing educational needs of the Latino student population. According to recent census data in the Tri-state (OH-IN-KY), the Hispanic population has increased 500% over the past decade.
Mission
The Office of Latino Student Affairs strives to improve and enhance the educational experience of Latino Students at Northern Kentucky University by implementing academic, cultural and social programs designed to address their needs and further their success.
Services
4Lead NKU's efforts to serve an expanding Latino community in-state and out-of-state.
4Develop a rich Latino community environment in which students feel accepted and able to succeed.
4Coordinate academic, cultural and social activities with the Honors Program, Literature & Language Dept, African-American Student Affairs, and other organizations within NKU.
4Expose students to the Learning Resource Center, math lab, Student Support Services, CINSAM, and other departments as appropriate.
4Develop a mentor program to better assist new and transferred students.
4Develop new partnerships with Latino organizations in Kentucky and Ohio.
4Serve as a consultant to businesses, K-12 educators, and public service agencies.
4Serve as bi-lingual resource for NKU faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
4Coordinate the Latino Community Outreach Advisory Council.
